The ethos of the Koru Project is to bring kindness, witness and presence through compassionate relationship so that each person feels seen, heard and valued. These qualities are embodied by our dedicated therapists, counsellors and mentors in all our specialisms.

We individually match the skills and expertise of our practitioners with the needs and circumstances of each client.

Specialisms

Dramatherapy

Dramatherapy combines elements of theatre and drama practice with psychotherapy to create a playful and empowering process of healing.

Play Therapy

Play is the foundation for our development as human beings.

Through it, we learn about ourselves and our relationship to others and the world.

Art Therapy

In art therapy, the therapist makes use of creative techniques and elements of art practice to facilitate healing and recovery.

Music Therapy

Music is the universal language of human experience. It communicates through our bodies, minds and emotions and is a powerful tool for connection and healing change.

Sports Mentoring

Sports mentoring is key in addressing the interaction between mind and body to enable improved self-awareness, emotional regulation and well-being.

Forest School and therapy in a natural environment

Forest School offers children the chance to experience their place in nature, where for a moment, the walls of the classroom become the trees and the sky.

Sensory Play

Sensory play forms an essential part of Koru practice in art, play and movement therapy and is used by practitioners to support children in Bespoke Specialist Provision in Education.

Sand Tray

Sand Tray is a therapeutic tool used by play and other arts therapists in The Koru Project for individual therapy sessions and as part of Bespoke Specialist Provision in Education.

Therapeutic Parenting and DDP

Therapeutic Parenting is a therapeutic approach modelled on the early loving and responsive relationship between parents and children necessary for healthy child development and positive relational bonds.

Bereavement Counselling

When someone close to us dies we may feel like a stranger in the world. All that is known and familiar to us is taken away and we have to find a new way of being.

Mentoring

The Koru Project offers mentoring to clients in education, arts and sports.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy is a talking based psychotherapy that emphasises the influence of unconscious processes and unresolved past conflicts upon present behaviour.

Humanistic and Integrative Therapy

Humanistic and Integrative Therapy is a person-centred and holistic practice of psychotherapy and counselling that brings together more than one approach to meet the needs of each client.

Life Story Work

Life Story Work is a compassionate, trauma-informed practice that helps children and young people post adoption or who have faced difficult or traumatic life events to create a foundational personal narrative of their early life.

Thrive

Thrive is an assessment system based upon the universal milestones of childhood development. It is a kind and child-centred approach that takes into consideration the effects of trauma and developmental disruption upon a child’s ability to learn, emotionally regulate and relate to others.
